Today’s musical selection comes from Africa. Traditional music from this part of the world is rhythm-based and features the heavy use of percussion instruments. African music uses five notes per octave, instead of seven. Multiple rhythms are typically used in a single piece. Often several melodies are played at the same time. Another distinctive trait of Traditional African music are call and response patterns.
